Kuala Lumpur 1998 Commonwealth Games, Malaysia

Two theme songs from the 1998 XVI Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 16th Commonwealth Games were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 11 September to 21 September 1998, making it the first Asian country to act as host. It was also the last Commonwealth Games for the 20th century. The logo for these games was inspired by the national flower of Malaysia, the hibiscus. The official mascot for the games was Wira (Malay for “warrior” or “hero”) the orang utan. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth and Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation declare the ceremony closed with remarks as the best Commonwealth Games ever held in the 20th Century. International stars Céline Dion and Rod Stewart entertained the crowd on the closing ceremony. A total of 3638 athletes from 70 nations participated in the KL 98 Games.
